Shirts: Summer Rollup Sleeves Theme

Whether or not the Met Office forecasters have got it right about summer 2009 being a scorcher, now's the time to make sure you have the latest must-have items in your summer wardrobe for those days when the sun does hopefully show its lovely, shining face!

For us fellas, the big trend of this summer is the check shirt. Back from the fifties with gusto they will be eminently popular and worn throughout the UK this season. There are a number of ways the shirts can be worn, but for day wear this summer's trend is open collar and rolled-up sleeves. Later in the evening when its cooler, or if heading out to the club, then rolled down sleeves can be worn with buttoned-up collar.

The latest on-trend casual shirts come in a variety of styles: Gingham and lumberjack-style will be particularly popular, or available as just plain checks with prominent bold reds, greens or blues. Additionally, a range of shirts come with attached hoods, making them ideal for chillier nights out!

Denim shirts are also a desired item for this year's summer wardrobe, but if wearing one make sure to not also wear it with denim jeans - the double denim look is a big no-no and a definite fashion faux-pas! Denim shirts should also be worn with rolled up sleeves, giving a combination of trendy and industrial look. However, denim shirts come in a range of colours other than the traditional blue. Blacks, greys and bold reds promise to be big sellers this summer.

Other casual shirts in a variety of bold colours, such as red and blues or in a range of subtle stone or grey shades are also guaranteed to be flying off the shelves. For the more adventurous leopard print of skull print shirts are also guaranteed to attract attention, but again wear these with rolled-up sleeves to look on-trend. All these shirts can be worn with a selection of long trousers, or particularly stylish shorts for daywear.

However, when buying your summer shirts don't forget those essential accessories such as the latest flip-flops, belts and a cracking pair of sunglasses. When it comes to the latter there is a massive choice, from 50s classic Raybans through to celeb-style Readers and much more; you'll look as hot as the summer sun wearing these!

Finally, for sunny days pull on the latest cap or hat to offer protection against the fierce summer sun. Trilby's are definitely in this summer so grab one while you can!
